GLOUCESTER: Patricia R. (Gallant) Aiello, 78, died Thursday, August 30, 2012, at Kaplan Family Hospice House after a brief illness. She was the wife of John B. Aiello with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on January 25, 1934 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gladys (Martin) Gallant. She graduated from St. Ann High School class of 1951. Before her marriage, Pat worked as a telephone operator. She worked as a waitress at the Old Farm Inn, the Whistle Stop Mall Coffee Shop, Andrew’s Coffee Shop, and was the owner of the Captain’s Lodge Coffee Shop with her friend, Gertrud Pretzler until 1985. In her later days, she stocked cards in local stores for American Greeting Cards.
For several years, Pat and John vacationed in Aruba, enjoying the smooth beaches, refreshing breeze and El Gaucho’s, their favorite restaurant. She spent her leisure summer time taking in the rays at Good Harbor and Niles Beaches, doing crossword puzzles and reading by the hour. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren and playing cards with her family and friends. She was a gracious hostess, sharing her home and beautifully kept pool and yard with friends and family who will remember her especially for the yearly Fourth of July celebrations she and John hosted when they lived on Shore Hill Road.
In addition to her husband John, Pat is survived by her daughters, Rochelle Cameron and her husband Allen, Dawn Aiello; her son, Jay Aiello; grandsons, Jeremy Cameron and his wife Kelly, Jayme Cameron and his companion Jennifer Sandler; granddaughter, Kelly Blake; great- granddaughter, Kelbe; grandson, Jonathan Cameron and his wife Amanda; great-grandchildren, Adam and Lily Cameron; Cameron Sweet who was as dear as a grandson to her; and her sister Joanne and husband Harold Layton. In addition, she is survived by her in-laws Joseph and wife Catherine Aiello, Grace and her husband Joseph Favazza, Marie Linquata and companion Joseph Polizzia, Annette and her husband Brien Kennedy, Joanne and her companion Anthony Tamarindo, brother-in-law Michael DiLiberti, sisters-in-law, Felicia, Grace and Rose Aiello, her dearest friends, Spike and Gertrud Pretzler and their family, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her parents-in-law, John and Lillie Aiello, sister-in-law, Josephine DiLiberti, brothers-in-law, Louis Linquata, Anthony “Nutzie” Aiello, Michael Aiello, Louis Aiello, Thomas Aiello and sister-in-law, Emily (Pike) Aiello.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. At her request, there are no visiting hours. Memorial gifts may be made in her memory to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Holy Family Parish, 60 Prospect St., Gloucester, MA 01930, or Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 or to the charity on one’s choice.

Manchester — Peter Pennington Herrick, age 74, of Abbaolis, MD and formerly Crofton, MD and Calabash, NC, passed peacefully on Wednesday, August 22 at Mandrin Hospice House in Harwood, MD. Born in Beverly on April 15, 1938 to the late Charles A. and Esther F. Herrick, Peter spent his formative years in Manchester-by-the-sea. Peter graduated from Phillips Andover Academy in 1956 and from Dartmouth College, class of 1960. He served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1960-1966. Peter had a 36-year career with the Department of Defense, during which time he spent two years in Vietnam and received the Meritorious Civilian Award for his service there. In the early nineties, Peter was instrumental in the creation of the National Cryptology Museum located at Fort Meade, MD. His career took him around the world, with a focus on Asia, giving him a view of many diverse cultures. Peter was active in the Christian faith and was an elder and a deacon at Prince of Peace in Crofton, MD and later an elder at Calabash Presbyterian Church in Calabash, NC. His passion for sports led him to volunteer with several youth programs. In particular, he was an avid lacrosse player and fan. He co-founded the Crofton Youth Lacrosse program in 1972 and capped his career as the Junior Varsity Couch at Glen Burnie High School. Peter was instrumental in establishing Crofton Swim & Tennis Clubs swim team in the early seventies and was a constant presence on every athletic field on which his children played. When Peter was not at a sporting venue he enjoyed the game of golf. Peter survived by his wife of 45 years, Frances Elders Herrick; two daughters, Cathie Herrick (Kevin Elion) and Cheryl (Dave) Lauer; a son Charlie (Elizabeth) Herrick; a brother John B. (Mary) Herrick, 10 grandchildren, a nephew and two nieces.

Gloucester, MA — Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, September 6th, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Catherine M. “Kay” (Gleason) Cook, who died unexpectedly at her summer residence in Gloucester on Monday evening, September 3rd, at 86 years. A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, September 7th at 8 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Revere at 9 a.m. ”Kay” was born & raised in Somerville in the Union Square section & attended both St. Joseph’s Grammar School & St. Joseph’s High School. She is a 1944 alumna of St. Joseph’s High School. As a young lady, she worked in the family business at “Ryan Barrel” of Malden & Peabody. She worked there for over 45 years, as their office manager for 45 years, retiring in 1980. The family also had a summer residence in Gloucester, which she enjoyed for many years, & where she passed unexpectedly. For over 50 years, she & her family were devotees of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Revere, where they were most active in the many fraternal organizations of the Parish. She was a member of St. Mary’s Womens Club, & served on many fund raisers, in the past. Mrs. Cook & her late husband, were long-time members of the Malden Moose Club, as well. Her late husband, Joseph W. “Bill” Cook died in November of 2001. She is the Devoted mother of, William E. Cook & his wife, Yvonne of Malden & Thomas J. Cook & his wife, Judith E. of Londonderry, NH. She is the Cherished grandmother of: Richard Cook & his wife, Cindy of Saugus, Erin Barbato & her husband, Richard of Ipswich, Christopher Cook of Londonderry, NH, Daniel Cook & his wife, Heather of Hudson, NH, Ashley Cook & Sean Cook, both of Malden. She is also lovingly survived by her great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Tyler & Jaelin Cook. Interment will be in the family lot at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the: American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

Born in Binghamton, NY, on December 20, 1941, to Anna Ferchir and Earl Richard Fahrenz, Dick graduated from Binghamton Central High School, The Ohio State University, and University of Connecticut Law School. He worked as an attorney for all of his professional life in Binghamton, NY, initially with the firm of Waite, Berry and Reiter; as a founding partner in Smyk, Smyk, and Fahrenz; and most recently with Hinman, Howard and Kattell, LLP. For many years Dick and his family spent summers in Eastham, MA.

GLOUCESTER – Joseph P. “Joe Gray” Scola, 89, passed away peacefully Thursday September 6, 2012 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital with his family by his side. He married the love of his life, Virginia V. “Ginny” (Swanson) Scola, who died in September of 2009. They had shared 62 years of marriage.
Born to a large family of ten in Gloucester on October 17, 1922, he was the son of the late Gaetano and Josephine (Pallazola) Scola. Joe started fishing from an early age with all of his brothers on the family vessel “Rosemarie.” He was the engineer and also the cook. After a life of fishing he retired and worked at the Gloucester House Restaurant as a prep cook.
Joe loved playing cards and cribbage with his many friends at the St. Peter’s Club. He also enjoyed going dancing with Ginny, being with his grandchildren and cooking his famous pasta and meatballs for all the family cookouts. An avid sports fan, he loved all the New England teams, especially the Boston Red Sox, and was overjoyed with all the recent championships.
He is survived by his son, Thomas C. Scola and his companion, Charlene King of Gloucester; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Richard Anderson of Hampton, NH; his granddaughter, Hannah, wife of Anthony Spinnelli and grandson, Jeffrey Anderson of Hampton, NH. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Thomas, Sam, Jerome and Paul Scola; sisters, Rose Frontiero and Stephanie Spinola; sister-in-law, Gloria Swanson and brothers-in-law, Richard and Harold Swanson. He will be sadly missed by all.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held Sunday afternoon in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 2 to 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

GLOUCESTER: Barbara Jean (Barnes) Agostini, 79, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 8, 2012. She was the wife of the late Otello “Augie” Agostini who died in 1980.
Born in Gloucester on February 26, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Louise (McGrath) Barnes. She attended Gloucester public schools and has resided in Gloucester her entire life.
Barbara was a longtime employee at Bass Rocks Motor Inn. She had also once worked as a fish cutter on the Gloucester waterfront. She was a member of the Cape Ann Lodge No. 1471, Loyal Order of Moose.
Barbara loved to test her luck with scratch tickets and enjoyed her trips to Foxwoods, Las Vegas and Atlantic City. She also took great pride in preparing cookouts at her home during St. Peter’s Fiesta and the Fourth of July. She loved doting on her grandchildren, with special loved and affection for Melissa.
She is now surrounded by her best friends doing what she loves best… playing cards and dancing with her husband.
She is survived by his son, Thomas Agostini and his wife Patti of Salem; four daughters, Robin Gentile and her husband John of Gloucester, Wendy Lewis and her husband Chuck of Danvers, Carolyn Frost and her husband Artie of Gloucester and Janice Keating of Guerneville, CA; fourteen grandchildren, Sean, Brian, Tracy, Shannon, Dawn, Jason, Kyle, Raquel, Shara, Melissa, Ally, Olivia, Jackson and Mia; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Begg-Martell of Bishopville, SC and Marjorie Carlson of Englewood, FL; a brother, Donald Barnes of Gloucester; three sisters-in-law, Elsie Olivette and her husband James of Walpole, Joan Agostini of Kissimmee, FL and Dorothy Barnes of Swans Island, ME and many nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Pam Begg-DiGiovanni of Bishopville, SC. She was also predeceased by her two sons, Robert “Brother” Agostini and Ronald “Aggie” Agostini, seven brothers, Harold, George, Edward and Robert Hardy and Tom, Daniel and Dick Barnes, four sisters, Marie Frontiero, Patricia Reed, Roberta Barnes and Sherryl Barnes and a special nephew, Alexander “Mickey” Begg who recently passed away.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 9:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. GLOUCESTER: Lorenzo “Larry” “Pop” Susanno, Jr., 75, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House following an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Marilyn Ann (Thompson) Susanno, who died in November of 2004. They had shared forty years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on December 1, 1936, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Vincenza (Nicastro) Susanno. A lifelong resident, he spent his life working as a fisherman. His love for fishing did not end when he retired. On any given day, he could be found with a fishing pole in his hand on one of the many docks in Gloucester. He enjoyed a simple life. He loved shooting pool and playing cards and many nights could be found playing cards or Yahtzee with his daughters. A loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin and friend to so many, he will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by three sons, Lawrence P. Susanno, Joseph M. Susanno and John D. Susanno; two daughters, Vincie A., wife of Kevin Burgess and Doreen A. Susanno; grandchildren, Paul Hubbard, Jonathan Moody, Jason Moody, Amber Hubbard, Mariah Verga, Meaka Camille; great-granddaughter, Neveah Moody; son-in-law, Matthew Verga; brother, Joseph Susanno; sisters, Josephine Testaverde, Mary Beaster, Phyllis, wife of Ronald Reardon and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Tammy Verga; brother, Leo Susanno; sisters Jennie Testaverde, Grace Lafond and Ida Corson and nephew, Jerome A. MacDonald, Jr.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday morning in the Calvary Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B102, Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
