John L. Crocker, 83

Rockport, MA — John Lindsley Crocker, 83, of Rockport, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 5, 2014. John was born in Utica, N.Y., on February 16, 1931, and was the son of the late Lindsley H. and Irene Florence (Bence) Crocker. He had attended Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y., before entering the Trappist Monastery, St. Joseph’s Abbey, in Spencer, Mass. He received a master’s degree from Emanuel College in Boston, in Art Therapy and Centering Prayer. John was an artist, who was gifted in painting, photography, poetry and writing. He was a teacher of Centering Prayer and a spiritual director. He spent his last years painting and teaching Centering Prayer. He is survived by his sister, Margot Byrnes and her husband, David, of Miami, Fla., and their children, Tammy Kinsey, Scott, John, and Kevin Byrnes; sister, Sue Lee of Sebastian, Fla., and her children, Debbie Rafuls, Andrew and Craig Lee, and Denise Wagner; a brother-in-law, Gerald Schoemick of Kenmore, N.Y. and his children, John Schoemick and Kerry Killian; also several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; as well as many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved companion, Dorothy Teko; sister, Linda Schoemick; nephew, Martin Schoemick; and grand-nephew, Daniel Byrnes.
