Manchester and Gloucester, MA — Margaret, (Peggy) Ring, of Manchester and Gloucester, MA, wife of the late Bernard F. (Barney) Ring, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the home of her son, Mark, in Gloucester. She was born in Beverly, June 30, 1922, daughter of the late Jeremiah and Margaret (Bowler) Noonan. Peggy spent her life in Manchester, MA, where she was raised on Smith’s Point and later raised her family with her husband on Old Essex Road. She was a graduate of Story High School, Manchester and a graduate of the first class of Endicott College. Peggy was employed as a secretary to the Dean of Nursing at Salem State College and later retired from a secretary position at the Manchester High School for the guidance department. Peggy was an avid sailor and lover of boating-often telling how she and her brothers and sisters rowed across the harbor to attend school. She was as familiar with the islands of Manchester Harbor, especially Baker’s Island, as she was to the ingredients of her pecan pie. She prided herself on teaching her sons to row before they could walk. Peggy was a knowledgeable passenger on her son’s fishing boat for many a Schooner Festival and was able to educate her fellow passengers by identifying and explaining every type of sailboat in the procession. Peggy loved to go fishing, and was known to snag a striper or two with her sons and grandchildren. Peggy was a bird watcher and dog lover. She raised many wonderful dogs, but none so special to her as her last dog, Abbot. In her later years, Abbot and Peggy could be found “spinning the beach”, checking out “cocktail cove” and walking around Tuck’s Point. Peggy enjoyed dining out at The Patio, with Irene and Finnie, their family, staff and extended family of wonderful patrons, turned an evening out for supper, into a night of friendly greetings, updates on the neighborhoods, entertainment and wonderful story-telling. Peggy is survived by her sister Mary, wife of Frederick Lord and George Hunter, husband of her late sister Betty. She is also survived by Faye Noonan, wife of her later brother Jeremiah, and James and Leo Ring, brothers of her late husband Barney, her son Patrick, husband of Cheryl, their children, Matthew and Jessica, wife of Dustin Harper, son Thomas, husband of Natalie, their children Lindsay, wife of Maurice Ducharme, and Laura, son Mark, husband of Cara, and son David, husband of Diana, their children, Sydney and Jackson, great-grandchildren, Jackson and Anthony and many nieces and nephews.
