Mr. Earl H. Selig, Sr., 87, of Gloucester passed away Wednesday, December 21, peacefully in his home. He was the loving husband of Cecelia "Cissy" Selig. Earl was born October 4, 1929, in Rockport, son of the late John Henry and Annie (Silva) Selig. He was an army veteran, having enlisted during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Munich, Germany during the early 1950s. He was a quiet man with a deep love of nature and the outdoors. He loved fishing and hunting, gardening, and bee-keeping. He was happiest when working with his hands and worked as a master carpenter and later as the proprietor of Earl's Lockshop. Earl is survived by his beloved wife, Cecelia; his three children, Susan Dieffenbacher and her husband, Wayne of Liberty, Maine; Dean Selig and his wife, Jane of Gloucester; and Earl "Tad" Selig, Jr. of Gloucester; and his sister, Virginia Madruga of Gloucester. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Zackery, and Miah; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua. He was predeceased by three brothers, Dean, Arnold, and Llewelyn; and two sisters, Harriett Gillis and Mary Day. The family plans to hold a private memorial in the Spring.
