On January 4, 2017, Lorraine L. Lycett, a well-known and respected member of the Gloucester community, passed away. Lorraine was the daughter of Charles and Agatha (Gasper) Francis. Lorraine was very proud of her Portuguese heritage. She had a varied and successful business career. She worked for Chick Real Estate, Gloucester Public Works Department and Gorton’s of Gloucester. At Gorton’s she became Director of Industrial Relations. She traveled across the country working with the many diverse plants Gorton’s had at that point of time. She retired in the 1980s to work on her husband’s lobster boat until she was approached to be Office Manager for LoBello-Sweeney, a fish brokerage firm. When she retired from that venture she went on to be an aide at Gloucester’s Visitor Welcoming Center, where she greeted thousands of people eager to learn what to do and see in our beautiful city. Lorraine enjoyed life. She traveled extensively in this country and in Europe. She loved being out and about whether it was at the Cupboard with the Carter family, sailing on the Schooner, Thomas E. Lannon or having a dish of mussels at The Gloucester House with Lennie and crew. Lorraine was predeceased by her husbands, Robert Budrow and Charles Lycett. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Gertrude Hesse and Dorothy Laubach; and a niece, Frances (Hesse) Larkin; and nephew, Richard Hesse. She is survived by her niece, Jane Hesse; nephew, Thomas Laubach and wife, Janet; nephew, Gerald McCarthy and his wife, Alice; and a number of grandnieces and nephews. Lorraine is also survived by a cousin, Roger Perkins of Rockport, whom she was very close to all of her life. She leaves behind the angels that took care of her in her last years, Sandi Seeley, Danielle Porter and Val DaSilva; as well as a beloved godchild, William Goodwin; and a dear friend, Suzanne Silveira. A celebration of Lorraine's life will be held later in the year. Donations in her memory may be made to The Open Door, 28 Emerson Avenue or the Kay Ellis Memorial Scholarship Fund, 5 Old Bray Street.
