Capt. Frederick W. Lakeman, 60, of Deerfield, N.H., formerly of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2017, while vacationing in Florida. Born in Beverly on September 17, 1956, he was the son of Edmund W. “Ned” and Jacqueline (White) Lakeman of Ossipee, N.H. He was a graduate of the Gloucester High School, Class of 1974. He was a resident of New Hampshire for the past 14 years. Fred worked as a commercial fisherman seining with his father and brothers since the age of 11. Ultimately, he captained and co-owned numerous fishing vessels along with his brother, Jack. Included were the F/V Taylor Creek, F/V Ugly Duck, and most recently, F/V Kingfisher. Fred loved the ocean and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working on his farm and tending to the horses with his daughter, Stephanie. Always quick to smile and lend a helping hand, he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his son, Dean F. Lakeman and his fiancée, Jen Bouchard of Northwood, N.H.; his daughter, Stephanie H. Gallant and her husband, Mathew of Deerfield, N.H.; and his brothers, Edmund W. “Ned” Lakeman III and his wife, Moira of Holden, Maine, and John R. “Jack” Lakeman and his companion, Karen Morris of Port Charlotte, Fla. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Jake and Ruth Lakeman and Aubree Gallant; his uncle and aunt, J. Frederick and Alice White of Franklin Lakes, N.J.; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence G. Lakeman in August of 2008. Memorial visiting hours will be held in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester on Friday, March 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
