Frederick Park Barrett, Jr., 64, died peacefully at his home in Northampton on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Rick was born in Holyoke and lived in western Massachusetts most of his life. He was a graduate of Governor Dummer Academy and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he majored in hotel and restaurant management. Recently retired, he spent most of his career in the food industry including Hampshire College, Hot Mamas and the early years of Fresh Samantha. He also developed his own line of extra caffeine coffee called Java Jolt. Rick will be missed by his family and his many friends, who knew him for his quick wit and sense of humor and by his 13-year-old dog, Buster, who rarely left his side. Rick was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Virginia Barrett of Holyoke. He leaves his wife, Nancy Barrett; his daughter, Althea Grace Barrett and son, Benjamin Seth Barrett, all of Granby, Mass.; his daughter, Ann Barrett of Wynantskill, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Asher Barrett, Allaura Barrett, and William Mason; his sisters, Laura Scherz of Austin, Texas and Cynthia Barrett of Milford, N.H.; his nephews, Joshua Hoffman and Will Hoffman of Austin; and his nieces, Jessica Hodges of London, England, Carey Hodges of Mont Vernon, N.H., and Amanda Hodges of Milford, N.H. There are no services. A private memorial will be held in the summer at Red Rock, the family property in Gloucester, which he loved dearly and enjoyed since childhood.
