Rockport, MA — Helen C. (Henderson) Brownlie, wife of the late George Brownlie, Jr., died peacefully at Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on February 20, 2013, just one week before her 92nd birthday. She was born on February 27, 1921, in Beverly, MA, to the late Alexander and Ellen (Craig) Henderson. She graduated from Beverly High School in 1938, and helped her parents run the Larcom Cottage in Beverly Farms for several years before entering Beverly Hospital School of Nursing for her RN, where she graduated in 1945. She married George in 1946 and began raising a family in Beverly Farms. They moved to Little Silver, NJ, in 1957 when George was transferred to NYC for his job. She was very proud of her Scottish heritage and did extensive research on her family tree. She was even able to travel to Scotland to meet many of her relatives. She loved to travel and was able to visit almost every state in the USA. She was greatly interested in architecture and design and helped design 2 houses that they built and then resided in. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, furniture refinishing and many other crafts. She remained in New Jersey until 2007, when her health required more care, and she moved back to Massachusetts to the Herrick House in Beverly, and to be closer to family. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Cornell and her husband Robert, of Rockport; sons, Donald and his companion Martha Blaylock, of Tulsa, OK; Douglas, of Crested Butte, CO; David and his wife Yvette, of Harwich; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Cornell of Cambridge, MA, Alyssa Mihal of St Louis, MO, Ian Brownlie of Reinholds, PA, Amanda Frank of Denver, CO, and Rebekah Clark, of Acton, ME; 2 great-granddaughters, Tara & Sydney and a niece and nephew. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a baby sister, Jean and sister Dorothy.
