East Lyme, CT — Carolyn (Carlie) M. Powers (Klestinec) Gunn, born in Gloucester, Massachusetts on March 23, 1917, daughter of Mary McPhee and John H. Powers. Died on February 22, 2013 at age 95. Carolyn attended St. Ann’s Elementary School, and Gloucester High School, graduating in 1934. She graduated from Salem State Teacher’s College in 1937. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Boston University in 1942 and a Master’s Degree of Science in Education from Southern Connecticut State College in 1967/1968. Carolyn taught school at the Maplewood Elementary School, Gloucester, Massachusetts from 1937 to 1944 and the Essex Elementary School in Essex, Connecticut from 1967 to 1978. Carolyn joined the U.S. Coast Guard serving as a Spar during World War II from 1944 to 1946. Carolyn was married to Robert J. Klestinec of the U.S. Coast Guard who predeceased her, and to Gilman C. Gunn, Jr. of Groton, Connecticut, who also predeceased her.
