Windham, NH — Sister M. Patrick (Eleanor) Burke, 86, a Sister of Mercy for 62 years, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, after a period of declining health. A native of Dover, N.H., she was the daughter of Arthur P. and Mary Josephine (Greene) Burke. Sister Patrick received her B.A. in English from Mount St. Mary College in Hooksett, N.H., and her M.Ed. in guidance from Tufts University in Medford, Mass. She was a dedicated teacher and administrator in schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Sister Patrick taught at St. Patrick School in Manchester, and St. Patrick School in Berlin, and was principal at St. Mary School in Claremont, N.H. In Massachusetts, she was a teacher at St. Mary Star of the Sea School in East Boston. From 1970-1977, she was Director of Marian Court Junior College (now Marian Court College) in Swampscott, Mass. For 25 years, from 1977-2002, she taught at St. Ann School in Gloucester. After retiring from full-time teaching, Sister Patrick served until 2012 as a teaching assistant at Immaculate Conception School in Newburyport, Mass. Sister Patrick is survived by a sister, Frances Burke, and a brother, Arthur Burke, both of Dover; a niece, Mary Desjarlais; three nephews, Kevin, Michael, and James Burke; many cousins; and her Mercy Community. She was predeceased by a brother, Maurice Burke.
