Rockport, MA — David R. Harris, 68, of Rockport, husband of Judith (Francis) Harris, passed away on Saturday evening, August 10, 2013, at Massachusetts General Hospital, with his loving family at his side. David was born in Gloucester, Mass., on October 26, 1944, and was the son of the late L. Ellsworth and Mary E. (Harvey) Harris. He had been a high school athlete, playing catcher for the baseball team at Rockport High School, and graduating with the Class of 1962. David was a substitute teacher for the Rockport School System for grades pre-K through 12. He played tennis for many years, and loved a good mystery book. He was an office manager for the Wichita Wranglers, which was a farm team of the Kansas City Royals. He and Judi traveled extensively to Hawaii, California, Florida, New Orleans, La., and Branson, Mo. He proudly served his country for 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, including Vietnam. During those years, he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He had worked in every embassy in the world, as well as at the White House, for 8 years on the IG Team. David was very happy when he returned back to his roots in Rockport in 2002, and to his friends who affectionately called him “Dickie.” He was a member of the Vasa Order Spiran Lodge #98, American Legion Edward Peterson Post # 98, both of Rockport, and the Gloucester Elks Lodge #892. He was a previous member of the Masonic Temple in Rockport and Wichita, Kan. But his most special interests were his family and his friends. David was quick-witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. As he always said, “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere!” David is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Judith; a son, Jeffrey D’Antonio and his wife, Sara, of Danvers, Mass.; a daughter, Amy D’Antonio of Peabody, Mass.; a granddaughter, Alli Jean D’Antonio of Danvers; a brother, James L. Harris of Salem; brothers-in-law, Charles Francis and his wife, Mary, of Rockport, John Francis and his wife, Judy, of Panama City, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He leaves a very special cousin who was like a brother to him, William Patriquin, of Glendora, Calif., and a close friend, Robert Contrino of Rockport. He also leaves his special dogs, Charmin and Chloe. He was predeceased by his two former wives, Suzanne (Cook) Harris, and Dorothy (Ruddick) Harris.
