William “Bill” Leslie Carroll, 67
Kensington, CA — William “Bill” Leslie died on Monday, March 11, 2013, at his home in Kensington, Calif., after a four month fight with cancer. Born June 12, 1945, in Detroit, Mich., to Lloyd and Jane (Marsh) Carroll of Ontario, Canada, Bill moved to Dallas, Texas, when he was in high school. He was the first in his family to earn a college degree, graduating from Rice University in 1967. He moved to College Park, Md., for graduate work in Physics at the University of Maryland, and went to work for the National Bureau of Standards. In 1977, Bill joined the newly formed Passive Solar Group at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (LBL), and completed a doctoral degree with the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley. Bill retired from the Lab in 2005 following a distinguished career at LBL developing simulation programs for analyzing energy efficiency in building design. During retirement, Bill embraced a bi-coastal life, spending large parts of the year at his second home in Rockport. He will always be remembered for his scientific curiosity, his practical and technical capabilities, his ironic wit, and his kind and generous spirit. Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara Sternfeld, his son and daughter-in law, Michael and JoLynn, his sister Linda, and his grandchildren, Julia and Phillip. He is predeceased by a sister, Lois Kunkle.

GLOUCESTER: Patrice (MacFeeley) Brancaleone, 59, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Jack J. Brancaleone. Born in Gloucester on November 23, 1953, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Ruth (Wells) MacFeeley. A lifelong resident of Gloucester, Patrice was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1971 and Burdett College. Patrice was employed as the office manager for Adult Foster Care of the North Shore in Gloucester for several years. She also once worked at the U. Mass. Marine Station and as a legal secretary for Attorney George Laventis for several years. Patrice enjoyed watching her sons play baseball and loved to spend time with her grandchildren who affectionately called her “Mima.” In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two sons, Paul J. Brancaleone and his wife, Michelle (Fernandes) and Jack A. Brancaleone and his wife, Kelley (Lawson) all of Gloucester; three grandchildren, Janelle, Jack and Noah Brancaleone; a sister, Janet M. Dunsky and her husband, Don; three brothers, William W. MacFeeley and his wife, Laura, Angus J. MacFeeley and his wife, Setsko and Alan MacFeeley; two aunts, Betty Austin and Florence Verhalen and her husband, James and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester at 12 noon. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 – 12 noon. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Adult Foster Care of the North Shore, “Summer Camp Fund”, 63 Middle St., Gloucester, MA 01930.

Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA — Clare (McMahon) Daly, 83, of Manchester, wife of the late Christopher Daly, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, April 10, 2013, with her loving family at her side. Clare was born in Kilmaley, County Clare, Ireland, on March 24, 1930, the daughter of the late John and Brigid (Falvey) McMahon. Clare loved her family and enjoyed them immensely. She was a devoted mom and grandmother and enjoyed attending all her grandson’s sports events. Her home was warm and welcoming and she loved making delicious Sunday dinners for all. Clare took great pleasure in listening to Irish music and loved traveling back to Ireland for many years with her family.

She was the cherished grandmother of Story, Emerson and Michael Moore, from whom she found incredible joy. She was the sister of Richard G Luongo, of Hamilton. Dianne was the daughter of the late Dr. Angelo Luongo and Antonette (Giordano).
John H. “Jack” Doyle Sr., 75
Gloucester, MA — John H. “Jack” Doyle Sr., 75, of Gloucester, husband of the late Marjorie F. (Roberts) Doyle, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 9, 2013, in the Kindred Nursing & Rehabilitation-Den Mar in Rockport. John was born in Gloucester, on April 9, 1938, the son of the late Wilfred Doyle Sr. and Mary (Gracie) Doyle. Jack was a quiet man, who enjoyed morning coffee with the boys, from TJ’s Whistlestop, to Georges, to McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts. An avid sports fan, he watched all his favorites play, but was a Red Sox baseball fan first. Years ago, he played in an Ipswich Bowling League for 20 to 30 years. He was a member of the Gloucester Elks Lodge #892, for more than 32 years. He is survived by his daughters, Jacqueline Da Silva and her husband, Jose, of Gloucester, Mass., Roberta Bronecki, of Wisconsin, son, John H. Doyle Jr. and his wife, Yesenia, of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Jennifer Stooksbury, of Brockton, Mass., Shayla and Teagan Doyle, of Texas, Aaliyah Doyle, of Louisiana, Martin and Crystal Pierce, of Wisconsin; brothers, Wilfred Doyle, of West Terre Haute, Ind., Robert Doyle, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Thomas Boudreau, of Ventura, Calif.; a sister, Patricia Wall, of Rockport, Mass., and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Sheila Doyle. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Den Mar, who went above and beyond in their care and a special thanks to Debbie Collins for her attention and care to Jack. The family would also like to say thanks to his extended family at the Pilot House, where Jack worked for several years.
