Diane Curley, 74, wife of John “Mickey” Curley of Gloucester, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Addison Gilbert Hospital with family at her side. They had enjoyed 54 years of marriage. She is also survived by their daughter, Justine; her dog Luke; and numerous family and friends. Diane grew up in Rockport and graduated from Gloucester High School. Diane taught at St. Ann School, then spent nearly 30 years teaching special needs students in the STEP Program at Gloucester High School. She loved her co-workers and stayed close to them. She was devoted to her students and their families and loved taking them on special outings. She took great joy in their every accomplishment. Diane taught C.C.D at St. Ann School, and she and her husband were proud members of the G.H.S. Band Parent Association. They made wonderful friends and enjoyed going to many competitions in the G.H.S. Band’s championship years. Diane loved her nieces and nephews. She and her husband enjoyed taking the kids to Benson’s Animal Farm, Stoneham Zoo and many places in the White Mountains. Diane especially loved Story Land, perhaps because although she took care of everyone around her, she always kept the innocent heart of a child herself Both Diane and Mickey were so busy working they only took two “official” vacation trips. One of those was Branson, Missouri, where Diane hoped to see Wayne Newton. But Wayne was out of town, so they got tickets to see Bobby Vinton at his Blue Velvet Theater. Traffic was bad and John was not about to let Diane miss the show. He got out of the car and started directing traffic on Route 66 so they made it to the show on time. Eventually, Diane saw Wayne Newton and he came over and sang directly to her. All her life, Diane was there to help everyone she could. Even in her later years, when she couldn’t physically get around, she always had great advice and comforting words to offer. The many acts of love she expressed, both in word and deed, will live on in all those she knew. Throughout her life, she exhibited determination and perseverance. Even in her last hours and moments, her heart was so full of love for her family she perservered beyond what seemed possible. Diane will be loved and missed by all who knew her. Diane’s husband and daughter wish to thank Dr. Michael Arsenian and the I.C.U. staff, Dr. Thomas Pearce and his staff. Her funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joachim’s Church, Broadway, Rockport on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. For online condolences, please visit www.greelyfuneralhome.com.
