Richard Francis Vadala, 68, died on December 23, 2016. He leaves behind his wife, Patricia (Saunders) Vadala. Richard was born in Gloucester on February 11, 1948, to Ethel and the late Francis Vadala. He is survived by his brother, M. Robert Vadala and his wife, Cathi; his brother, Donald and his wife, Barbara; his sister, Joanne White and her husband, Richard; his son, Corey Vadala and his fiancé, Julie Drane; his stepchildren, step-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Elissa Vadala, whom he missed dearly, and his brother, David. Richard graduated Gloucester High School in 1966 and was a US Army Veteran. Richard enjoyed reading, studying Christianity, and caring for his pets. He was a good listener and loved having long thoughtful conversations about faith, religion, God’s nature and many other topics. He didn’t talk to win but to learn new things and for the joy of hearing others’ reflections. He was also a sports fan, avidly following the Pats and the Red Sox. Richard was buried privately at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA. A Memorial Service for family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 2 p.m. at the Orthodox Congregational Church in Lanesville, 1120 Washington Street, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may make donations in his memory to his favorite charities: the USO, the DAV, or to the Veterans’ charity of your choice.
