Ruth Natalie (Zager) Cook, 2 Middle Street, Gloucester, died on February 16th at the age of 88 years old. She was born on April 21, 1928 to Ruth K (Garvey) and Joseph T Zager. She was a life long resident of Gloucester and Magnolia and a 1946 graduate of Gloucester High School. Mrs. Cook was employed by the Gloucester District Court, Probation Department, for several years prior to her retirement in 1993. She also worked for the elderly nutrition program (C.A.P.E). Along with her sisters she owned and operated the "Dandylion" shop on Lexington Ave, Magnolia in the mid 70's. As a community news reporter she wrote the Magnolia News column for the Gloucester Daily Times in the 50's and 60's. She was also the past president for the Saint Joseph's Guild in Magnolia. She is survived by her two sons, Christopher Cook and Clifford Cook of Gloucester; daughters, Cynthia Cook of Gloucester, Catherine wife of Robert Shea of Mashpee; a granddaughter, Aura Haakensen of Colorado and two grandsons, Cody and Zack Haakensen of Colorado; brothers, Robert Zager and wife, Irene (McCullen) Zager of Gloucester, and Donald Zager and wife, Joan (Bourdon) Zager of Long Island, N.Y.; special niece and nephew, Carol (Cook) Marino and husband, William Marino of Gastonia, N.C. and Jerris Cook and wife, Mary Ellen Cook of Manchester. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews. Close family friends David Billard, Carol Brown and Arlene Leesh. She was predeceased by her daughter, Corrine (Cook) Belanger wife of William Belanger of Gloucester. Her sisters Barbara Zager, Pricilla Zager and Francis Bradley and her husband, William Bradley and her brother, Phil Zager and his wife, Sadie Zager, all of Magnolia, Mass. Burial arrangements will be private at a future date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lisa Curcuru Scholarship Fund thru the Cape Ann Saving Bank Gloucester, or any charity of choice.
