Winifred N. (Parker) Figurido, 92, wife of the late Richard M. Figurido of Gloucester, died peacefully while surrounded by her loving family. Winnie was a loving, caring, and compassionate person, whose heart and home was always open to the world. Born in Gloucester on April 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Muriel (Griffin) Parker. Winnie was a graduate of Gloucester High School with the Class of 1942 and later graduated as a nurse’s assistant. She worked as a clerk at Gloucester City Hall and a home health aide of Greater Cape Ann for many years. Winnie was an active member of Our Lady of Good Voyage Church and a member of the Guild of Ladys. She was a member of the Ward Two PTO, volunteering as a room mother and assisting in the library. The Fig’s home was always open to family and friends. There was always an extra place or two at the dinner table. Winnie enjoyed knitting, how many Portuguese sweaters did she knit for her grandchildren and friends, well over 100. She was also an avid reader. For over 25 years, Winnie and Dick enjoyed their retirement home with friends and family in Gulfport, Florida. Most of all, she adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and will be greatly missed. Winnie is survived by her children, Nancy Malaquias and husband, Lou; daughter-in-law, Jo-Ann Figurido, wife of the late Bruce Figurido; Wayne Figurido and wife, Lynda; Gregg Figurido and wife, Vera; Laura Figurido; Bette Spohr and husband, Bill; Kathy Murphy; and Kevin Figurido and wife, June; grandchildren, Rich Figurido, Bruce Figurido, John Nicastro, Nicole Dziadose, Brian Malaquias, David Nicastro, Tanya Gossom, Josh Figurido, Marc Nicastro, Erica Spohr, Jason Malaquias, Crystal Hare, Matt Nicastro, Briana Fitzgerald, Seth Figurido, Falon Willey, Chad Figurido, Angela Figurido, Felicia Spohr, Andrew Nicastro, Jessica Horth, Alana Figurido, Chelsea Murphy, Patience Murphy and Elizabeth Murphy; and 26 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Winifred was predeceased by her son, Bruce Figurido; grandson, Jonathan Figurido; and great-grandson, J.J. Nicastro. Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester will be on Friday, March 10, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her funeral will be held from Greely’s on Saturday at 9:45 a.m., followed by her Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St. Her burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to J.J. Nicastro Foundation, c/o John Nicastro, 9 Lattof’s Farm Circle, Rockport, MA 01966.
