Gard H. Estes, 76, passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 08, 2017, with his beloved daughter, Sherry, by his side, from a battle with Parkinson’s disease, and heartbreak from the loss of his Lovee on February 14, 2014. Born in Lewiston, Maine on January 31, 1941, to the late George H. Estes and Gertrude (Burgess) Estes, Gard, or as many knew of him as “Clint”, was a resident of Gloucester for over forty years. Although Gard’s lifelong career as a self-employed Carpenter is known throughout our community, the North Shore, and Boston, including The Prudential Building, he also held multiple other skills that included working a Maine cemetery/crematorium as a young man, and horse training, to which he was masterly skilled at. An avid hunter throughout most of his life, Gard was an advocate to his family on the education, safety, protection, and respect of firearms control. Gard was simply by the book. Gard, a huge fan of Frank Sinatra, doing it “his” way, and Dan Marino, the best quarter back of all-time (sorry Brady fans), enjoyed his annual trips to Vegas with his Lovee, to where they acquired the riches of many wonderful true lasting friendships that brought love and laughter into their lives. In addition to his passion for his Pammy, Gard held an undying perseverance in preserving and sharing the story of his great friends who heroically lost their lives at sea on the Can-Do Pilot Boat, in a rescue mission, during the Blizzard of ’78, through assisting with the accurate account of events as written in the book “Ten Hours Until Dawn”, to which Gard received a Massachusetts Official Citation in recognition of his continued efforts. Gard is predeceased by the love of his life, Pamela E. (Andersen) Giamanco “Lovee”, his companion of 36 years, and is survived by his children, Sherry L. Estes of Gloucester, and her partner Mark Luse; Joseph V. Giamanco of Virginia, and his wife, Allison Giamanco; his grandchildren whom he adored, Travis Landes of Ipswich; Jacob and Joshua Giamanco of Gloucester; and Hailey Akers of Virginia. Gard is also survived by his extended cherished and dearly treasured family, the Tarr’s and Taliadores’ of Gloucester and Essex; Phil and Donna MacDougall of Gloucester; Tommy Hill of Rockport; Ted Gaudette of Rhode Island; Denise Nicastro of Rockport; and all former and current members of the Station Gloucester family that Gard held such a high regard and heartfelt recognition for. Gard always enjoyed visiting for coffee at the Can-Do Café. Although Gard is now gone, remember to stay off his lawn. Visiting hours for Gard will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017, in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester, from 2 to 6 p.m. Flowers are welcome, or contributions may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children – Boston, to which services for the kids in need touched him deeply.
