Jeffrey Gordon Thomas, "Grampy boy," 80, of Ipswich, Mass., passed away on March 11, 2017. On October 13, 1959, he married his beloved wife of 57 years, Janet Pablo of the Dominican Republic. Jeffrey cherished his family and survivors include his wife, Janet; his daughters, Carmen and Eileen; two sons, Jeffrey Jr. and Brock; daughters-in-law, Margaret and Lauren; son-in-law, Paul; two grandsons, Dylan and Zacharie; one granddaughter, Alexandria; and a great-granddaughter, Ella; two sisters, Cynthia Dickens and Ramah Roberts; and an uncle, George Singer. He was predeceased by his parents, Gordon W. Thomas and Bertha M. Thomas, and cherished aunts and uncles. Jeffrey was a dedicated Naval Veteran who served in the Navy for 22 years. He worked at the VA hospital in Bedford Mass for 34 years. Jeffrey had many hobbies and interests. He loved people and had a keen ability to see something good in everyone. He was an enthusiastic bird watcher and nature lover. He was a dedicated husband and father and especially enjoyed his three grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Jeffrey was passionate about his heritage and ancestry involving the schooner Adventure. He was the third generation of Thomas's and had the namesake of Captain Jeffrey Thomas, his great-grandfather and the original captain of the Adventure. His father, Gordon W. Thomas was a dedicated historian and author. He loved to sit at the fisherman's statue talking with people and sharing stories of the history of Gloucester. The mayor of Gloucester named him the official greeter and tour guide of Gloucester. Jeffrey will most be remembered for his kind and compassionate heart and his ability to connect with humanity and nature, and he will be sincerely missed. A private memorial and celebration of his life will be held June 10, aboard the schooner Adventure in Gloucester, Mass.
