Pittsburgh, PA and Gloucester, MA — died peacefully on July 31, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he and his wife of 60 years, Ruth Beller, lived in Livingston, New Jersey for nearly 50 years until moving to Pittsburgh in 2001 to be close to their daughter, Judy. A graduate of Columbia University School of Pharmacy, and co-owner of Beller Electric Company, Roland turned his hobby of creating handmade furniture into a full time business. Alone in his garage, he designed and built thousands of tables and other pieces of high-end furniture, which he and his wife sold at craft shows in the Northeast for 30 years. In his retirement, Ruth taught him how to knit, and he continued making and giving his wool scarves as gifts until only a few months ago. An avid fisherman, Roland spent 52 summers visiting his favorite spots in Gloucester, MA and bringing back the fresh fish to be prepared for the evening meals. Like any good fisherman, he was full of stories and jokes, which he remembered and recounted in great detail to entertain family, friends, and, more recently, the residents and staff at Weinberg Terrace, where he lived. His smile and unbounded optimism were inspirational. In addition to his wife, he is predeceased by his brother Milton (Marge). Roland is survived by his daughter Judith (Lee) Weinberg, his son Robert (Tahmineh) and grandchildren, Daniel (Emily) Weinberg, Jennifer Weinberg, Aryan Weisenfeld, and nieces and nephews.
