West Peabody, MA — Peter Carl Christensen, 61, of West Peabody, passed away peacefully after a short illness early Thursday morning, August 2, at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born in Winsted, CT, he is the son of the late Carl P. and Jeanette R. (Pellens) Christensen. Peter resided most of the first half of his life in Manchester-by-the-Sea with his parents. Pete was well known around town as a very friendly and outgoing young man. A gentle soul he loved to rub soft heads — especially those of babies, puppies and kittens. For the second half of his life Pete resided in group homes that are part of the Northeast Arc, which provides lifelong support for people with disabilities. His present home is at 6 Intervale Terrace in West Peabody, His house mates and staff are his second family. Some he has lived with for over 15 years. He is known there as an exceptionally funny and friendly guy. Peter worked for many years at Morgan Memorial with occasional placements in the community. He most recently attended Meridian Day Habilitation where he had many friends and acquaintances.

GLOUCESTER: Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Coyle) O’Maley Aiello, 90, died Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at the Golden Living Center surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Ralph B. O’Maley and the late Frank J. Aiello.
Born in Gloucester on May 19, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Chief John J. Coyle and Alice (Walters) Coyle. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and had attended Gloucester public schools.
Betty was employed at Goldman’s Clothing Store on Main Street for many years. She had also worked in the office of St. Ann’s Church and had occasionally put her culinary skills to work in the kitchen of the rectory.
She was an avid knitter and seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting. She was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Women’s Auxilary and the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3 American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, C. Michael and Joyce (Cusick) O’Maley and John J. “Jack” O’Maley; two stepsons, Lt. Joseph Aiello, husband of Debra L. Aiello, Frank J. Aiello, Jr., husband of Donna C. Aiello; five grandchildren, Ralph B., husband of Marianne O’Maley, Tracy M. Boutin, Kelly A., wife of Scott Swicker, Robin P. Doyle and Erin E. O’Maley; seven step-grandchildren, Carrie Jerome, Garrin Orlando, Jennifer Aiello, Brian Aiello, Christopher Allen, Jillian Dehsman and Jamie Orlando; twelve great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. She was also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Albert Frost; brother, John J. Coyle, Jr.; her stepdaughter, Sandra (Aiello) Orlando, wife of the late Alerio Orlando; and grandson-in-law, Robert A. Doyle.
Her funeral Mass will be held on Friday morning in Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church a 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.

GLOUCESTER: Carl W. Alsen, III, 80, formerly of Sudbury and Arlington, passed away on Tuesday August 7, 2012 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara D. (Smith) Alsen.
Born in Boston on June 29, 1932 he was the son of the late Walter and Helen (Danskin) Alsen. Carl served in the U.S. Army as 1st Lieutenant following his completion of an Electrical Engineering degree from MIT. He worked for Genrad Corporation before starting his own custom photo lab, Grindstone Studio in Sudbury. While in Sudbury he was a member of the Sudbury Minuteman Company. Upon his retirement Carl’s passion was his volunteer work for the Gloucester community. He was an avid ambassador for Gloucester Harbor, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a driver for American Red Cross, Gloucester Council on Aging and Senior Care.
In addition to his wife of fifty-six years, he is survived by his loving children, David Alsen and his wife, Sheila of Boxborough, Leanne Waldie and her husband, John of Fryeburg, ME, Susan Keenan and her husband, Mark of Conway, NH, Sharon Meader and her husband, John of Shrewsbury and Wendy Cookson and her husband, Robert of Craftsbury, VT; eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister, Janet (Alsen) Meymaris.
A memorial service will be held on Monday August 13th in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be prior to the service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Gloucester Council on Aging, 6 Manuel F. Lewis St. or SeniorCare, Inc., 49 Blackburn Center, both of Gloucester, MA 01930.

Born in Boston, she graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School. She had resided in Florida for the past 16 years and formerly lived in Beverly for 40 years. For many years she worked as a secretary at the Peabody Auto Auction in Peabody and the National Conveyer Co. in Beverly. She was a past president of ORT in Florida and former member of Temple B’nai Abraham in Beverly. She enjoyed painting in oils and watercolors as an amateur painter, playing Mah Jong and spending time with her stock trading group. Beloved wife of the late Hyman Rubenstein; devoted mother of Eric and his wife Cheryl Rubenstein of North Dighton, Lee and his wife Allison Rubenstein of Rockport; loving sister of the late Melvin Fine and her late twin sister Ruth Fast; cherished grandmother of Morgan, Brody, Lacey, and William Rubenstein and dear aunt of Cheri Discolo of Revere and David Fine of So. Hampton.

GLOUCESTER: Leo F. Mondello, Sr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11, 2012 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Virginia A. (Larkin) Mondello. On October 21st they would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Born in Gloucester on June 8, 1928, he was the son of the late Francesco and Francesca A. (Carbonaro) Mondello. A lifelong resident of Gloucester, Leo started working at a very young age with his father who was a cobbler and owned two stores in Gloucester. He then became the owner of the shop on Eastern Avenue and worked there for many years. Leo then decided to change his occupation to better provide for his family and became a fish cutter at Gorton’s of Gloucester until he was injured on the job and had to stop working.
Over the years Leo and Virginia enjoyed spending time together and would take scenic rides to New Hampshire. They also were known for watching the Boston Red Sox together and commentating on the game with each other. A few years back Leo enjoyed spending time in his vegetable garden and his children will never forget the plentiful amount of strawberries that he had grown. They seemed to multiply each year and began to take over the backyard. There were many good desserts enjoyed because of them. Most of all he will be remembered for being a man who was truly devoted to his family and friends. He cherished the times he had with his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Marie T. Mondello and Cheryl A. Pierce and her husband, John all of Gloucester; a son, Leo F. Mondello, Jr. and his wife, Traci L. of Danvers; a grandson, Christopher L. Mondello of Beverly and twin five year old granddaughters, Nicole and Megan Pierce of Gloucester; two brothers, Frank Mondello and Joseph Mondello and his wife, Virginia all of Gloucester; three sisters-in-law, Gail Mondello of Magnolia, Margaret Telles and Elizabeth Avila both of Danvers and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by six sisters, Jenny, Josephine, Sadie, Frances, Mary and Stella and five brothers, Gregory, James, Anthony, John and Eugene.
A funeral Mass for Leo will be celebrated on Thursday in the Holy Family Parish, St. Anthony’s Chapel, 2 St. Louis Ave., E. Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.

GLOUCESTER: W.P. Craft, III, 66, of Adams Place died unexpectedly Sunday morning, July 15, 2012. He was the husband of Patricia E. (Benjamin) Davidsen-Craft.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut on December 27, 1945, he was the son of the late Wirt Pomeroy, Jr. and Rita May (Andreotta) Craft.
He was the sole owner and proprietor of the Last Stop variety, and a memorabilia shop located at Whistle Stop Mall in Rockport. He also worked for B.J.’s for almost 20 years. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed, may he rest in peace.
In addition to his wife of 22 years, he is also survived by, two daughters, Paula Davidsen-Dickey and Penelope Davidsen-Hzayen and her husband, Ibrahim Hzayen; five grandchildren, Nathan Christopher Benjamin Dickey, Owen Chandler Barrett Dickey, Raif Issa Hzayen, Wade Garrett Coull and Wesley Gabriel Coull; sisters, Faith and her husband, Jerry Stanley of Charlestown, SC and Nancy DeSilva of Deland, FL; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Benjamin) Ritacco of Worcester and Joan M. (Benjamin) Davis of CA; brother-in-law, William G. and his wife, Saundra Benjamin of Portland, OR; many dear friends including his close friend Bill Polloni of Rockport and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was also predeceased by his grandson, Wyatt Gregory Coull.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 18th in the Trinity Congregational Church, 70 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 112, 12 Sadler Street, Gloucester.
