Gloucester, MA — Mildred Pauline Scola, 94, of Gloucester, Mass., beloved wife of the late Jerome Scola, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, at Golden Living Center, Gloucester. Millie Chiancola was born in Boston on April 21, 1919, to Mary Gagliano and Samuel Chiancola. Millie became a meticulous sewer at a very young age, and worked as a stitcher for Universal Coat, and later for Mighty Mac in Gloucester for many years. Millie taught evening classes in doll making at Gloucester High School. Millie donated dolls to raise money for the Special Olympics. Her interests in arts and crafts were insurmountable. Millie was a very talented crafts woman. She was an expert quilter and sewer. Millie was very artistic in painting with watercolors and drawing with charcoal. Her talents in arts and crafts grew throughout the years with her making handmade gifts for her family. She continued her interest in crafts well into her 90s. She was a member of the Madonna Del Rosario Society for many years, and was a parishioner of the Holy Family Parish. She had a great love for her family.

Gloucester, MA — Marilyn J. Steele, a longtime resident of Lanesville, died peacefully at the Fisher House of Amherst on May 23, 2013. She was the beloved daughter of the late Russell and Nora (Reddington) Steele, and sister of the late Russell E. Steele. Marilyn was originally from Braintree, Mass., where she attended elementary and high school, and was a drummer in the town’s marching band. Marilyn graduated from Boston University’s Sargent College in 1959, and taught physical education in the Arlington Public Schools. She moved to Lanesville in the early 1980s, fulfilling a longtime dream of living near Plum Cove Beach, where she had spent many happy days as a child. Marilyn was proud of her Swedish heritage, visiting Sweden several times, and was a member of Spiran Lodge in Rockport for many years. She was an accomplished knitter, and loved swimming in Folly Cove, walking her beloved Bernese Mountain dogs at Halibut Point, and biking on the trails of Dogtown.

Carol often stated her greatest pleasure in life was raising her four boys.
